Back to the basics of skincare

Establishing a daily skincare routine is vital for maintaining healthy and radiant skin. It is essential for everyone to prioritize caring for their skin to promote overall skin health. Let's talk about the basics of skincare.

Cleanser - Cleansing your skin daily using a facial cleanser suited for your skin type is an essential step in your skincare routine to remove oil, makeup, sunscreen, and impurities from pores. It also creates a clean foundation for you to apply products like face moisturizer or makeup.

Exfoliant - Use a gentle facial exfoliant 1-2 times weekly to remove dead skin cells, and prevent new skin cell turnover for smoother, more youthful skin. As we age, our collagen production begins to decrease. Exfoliating your skin will encourage new skin cell turnover AKA collagen production!

Exfoliants are available in mechanical "scrub" forms like micro-crystals. (stay away from the apricot scrubs, they can do more harm than good). Chemical exfoliators such as AHA's and BHA's are my personal favorite choice of exfoliants. AHA's such as glycolic and lactic acid are a great choice for those looking for anti-aging benefits. For those with enlarged pores, oily, acne prone skin looking to clarify and control oil production, BHA's will be your go-to. Be sure not to over exfoliate!

Moisturizer - Keep skin hydrated and balance oil production with a daily moisturizer. Dry/mature skin types can benefit from a rich moisturizer, and oily/combination skin types will benefits from a lightweight, non-comodegenic moisturizer.

Sunscreen - A very important step! Wearing sunscreen helps to prevent skin cancer and premature aging. Look for a broad spectrum sunscreen that shields against UVA and UVB rays, and apply daily!

Additions to boost your skincare routine

Toner - Oily skin types will benefit from using toner. Facial toners help balance your skins PH levels, control oil production, and lessens the chance of acne breakouts. Apply facial toner after cleansing and before serums.

Serums - Serums contain active ingredients to target specific skin concerns such as anti-aging, hyperpigmentation, rosacea, pores, acne. Most facial serums can be used daily.

Face Masks - A wonderful way to pamper your skin with nourishing ingredients and target skin concerns. Face masks be used 1-2 weekly, and some sheet masks are gentle enough to be used more often.

Eye Cream - Prevent fine lines around the eye area and target concerns such as puffiness or dark circles with a luxurious eye cream. Read more about the importance of a quality eye cream here.
